Audit backs Dixon schools as able to operate
An audit of Dixon School District released Wednesday night supports the district’s claim it is not in financial difficulty. Auditor Tim Schwingle said the audit found no going concern problem and disputes the Illinois State Board of Education’s certification. The ISBE had certified the district in April due to two years of expenditures exceeding revenues, though the board amended the 1989-90 budget and used working cash bonds and property tax revenue to balance it.

Soviet teacher to visit Dixon for six months exchange
Soviet visitors select a Russian language teacher from Dickson Siberia to live in Dixon for about six months and engage with students about life in the Soviet Union. Mayor Kartamyshev and Dixon officials invited the teacher who may arrive once visas and travel are arranged. Eleven Dixon students seven girls and four boys were chosen for the exchange and would visit Dickson during spring break while a reciprocal Dixon trip is planned for Christmas break.

Dixon man joins Edelmann buyout of Parker units
Tom Sherman of Edelmann says Parker Hannifin agreed to sell three automotive divisions for about 80 million in cash. The Dixon plant employs 350, producing gas and oil caps power steering parts and brass fittings. The buyout led by Paul Lederer aims to keep the Dixon facility in growth with the management group investors closing by Navy 30. Tagliabue chosen NFL commissioner after Rozelle era

Suspect nabbed in Dixon bank robbery case
A Skokie man James R. Wilson, 25, was arrested by FBI agents in Skokie and is in federal custody after confessing to Dixon’s first bank robbery at Ottawa’s First of America Bank on April 26. He admits to six bank robberies including a July 21 drive‑up at another First Bank, with about 14 000 stolen. He faces arraignment in Chicago Monday.
