Lee County approves 1990 budget with net levy cut

The Lee County Board approved a 1990 budget of 9.30 million dollars with a reduced general fund tax levy from 23 to 19 cents per 100 dollars of assessed value. The increase over last year stems from new parking and courthouse space plus elderly services, higher insurance costs, and a 4.12 percent pay raise for most employees. Negotiations with unionized offices continue, with contract outcomes pending. The board froze the zoning enforcement officer’s salary at 18,545 dollars, after earlier action in October.
