Dixon Area United Way tops goal for 1989 drive
Dixon Area United Way exceeded its $245,000 goal for 1989 90 according to co chairmen Tom Wadsworth and Tom Gascoigne. They credited stronger outreach, a training session, a new brochure, and a hand picked group of volunteers for the successful campaign that began Sept. 14 and concluded today.

Veterans Day observances set for Saturday across towns
In Dixon the annual Veterans Day program begins with a 9:45 a.m. flag ceremony at the Lee County Law Enforcement Center, followed by a 10:30 a.m. muster at the old Lee County Courthouse and an 11 a.m. 21 gun salute by the Marine Corps League. Guest speaker James Naylor, longtime Lee County Veterans Assistance Commission head, is a WWII Air Force veteran. Oregon and Rochelle also plan brief ceremonies and a parade, with VFW posts leading events.

Plans approved for Meadows and Dixon Park development
Dixon Park District approved a master plan for John Dixon Park and authorized $21,000 for excavation of four athletic fields at the Meadows site.
