Two-year-old dies in Steward fire tragedy
A two year old girl, Melissa Marie Dutka, died from smoke inhalation in a Steward house fire. The fire at 403 Main St Apt B began about 9 14 am and engulfed the upstairs apartment. Fire departments from Rochelle Steward and Flagg Center responded, rescuers unable to reach Melissa before flames rose too high. The home occupants included the Dutkas their three children and another couple. Investigators from the State Fire Marshal Office ruled the blaze accidental and electrical causes were ruled out. The Dutkas were treated and released. two children remained under observation. Funeral plans for Melissa Dutka are pending.
