Counterfeiting Ring Breaks After Cash Dump by Sanitation Workers
Federal agents shattered the largest U.S. counterfeiting case after $36.5 million in fake notes were seized. 85 people arrested across New York City, Miami, Chicago and Los Angeles since 1986. Mastermind Francisco Scocozza, a Uruguayan national living in Elmont, coordinated a two year operation that printed $100 million in first rate bills. The ring moved presses through Queens and Manhattan, using six changes of printing sites before most money was dumped when police closed in.
