Vietnam Memorial Wall replica to visit Dixon festival
A half scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall will grace the old Lee County Courthouse Lawn during the Dixon Petunia Festival from June 30 to July 4. The Rock River Valley Viet-Non chapter will staff a round the clock honor guard and host two events including a candlelit memorial. The wall, 130 feet long and 6 feet 11 inches tall, honors 58,000 fallen veterans with names read by visitors and staff to help locate loved ones.

Alaska quake rattles region near Anchorage
A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck southwest of Anchorage with epicenter in the Aleutian Range. It was felt from Nunia, Kodiak, and Palmer, but officials reported no damage and noted the isolated epicenter reduces risk.
