Harvard astronomer tracks West German spy ring in U S defense networks
Harvard astronomer Clifford Stoll says a 75 cent computing time anomaly led him to set a one man sting in 1986. He watched hackers access ARPANET OPTIMUS NASA JPL and Argonne systems, catching them copying sensitive military data back to Germany. He alerted the FBI who initially dismissed the risk but later showed interest as SDI Net revealed planted false data.

Judge rules AIDS issue to be decided by state officials

Robbins kept constitutional questions for later. The district had offered to excuse the students from the AIDS prevention section, but parents rejected the offer citing religious objections.

Baptist church told it has to move near bar
Winter Garden Florida Oakview Baptist Church moved last September into a storefront on Plant Street near Bernie's Liquors. City leaders who passed a 1200 foot liquor ban near churches now say the law applies to the church too, forcing eviction with a $375 monthly office lease. Pastor Don Voss says the church is poor and will seek negotiation. Officials acknowledge the irony.
