The piece argues for a severe economic blockade on Iran in reaction to Ayatollah Khomeini's stance on The Satanic Verses. It recalls 1915s indecency ruling on The Rainbow, notes publisher liability, and criticizes threats against publishers and booksellers. It cites Viking Penguin negotiations with Muslim leaders and warns of broader silencing pressure if publishers bow to intimidation.
