Gandhi and Bhutto clash over Kashmir and nuclear programs
Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Pakistan's Benazir Bhutto ended a two day Islamabad visit with a tense news conference. They reaffirmed efforts to normalize ties but failed to resolve disputes over Kashmir, nuclear plans, and regional tensions in the wake of a long stalled peace process. Gandhi accused Pakistan of pursuing weapons while Bhutto defended a peaceful program. Experts had expected talks on ending the Siachen Glacier stalemate.
