Rochelle City Council Battles Costs and Bids
The Rochelle City Council approved a $22.3 million appropriation ordinance amid bid rejections for two projects. Bids for nested airport hangars from Erect-A-Tube ranged $225,450 to $315,262 versus anticipated under $200,000, prompting a shift to a pole building. Wastewater lab bids around $138,000 were also rejected as officials seek alternatives. An ordinance to regulate landfill dumping is under preparation to close loopholes and a cap of 150 tons daily may be adopted. The council opposed House Bill 1761 restricting tax exempt bonds and approved a one year computer maintenance contract and a CCAP grant application for wastewater plant improvements.
