Reagan Day Proclaimed In Dixon On Feb 6 1990

The Dixon City Council proclaimed February 6 1990 and each subsequent year as President Ronald Reagan Day to honor Reagan's birthday and the community's presidential heritage. The measure introduced by Commissioner James Barber passed unanimously with Misner and his wife Donna present.

Warm spell across Dixon and Rockford with no record

Tuesday brought springlike warmth with highs of 55 in Dixon and 51 in Rockford though no records fell. A high pressure east and a Rockies low drove the warmth while dense fog lingered. Temperatures will ease but stay above normal with lows near 32 and highs in the mid 30s to 40s.

Manzullo Keeps March Ballot After ISBE Ruling

The Illinois State Board of Elections voted 8 to 0 to reject a challenge to Donald Manzullo’s nominating petitions, allowing the 16th District Republican to remain on the March 20 primary ballot. Hawes had claimed a dual address on the candidacy form. Manzullo praised the decision and criticized Hawes and primary rival John Hallock, with a press conference set for 10 a.m. Thursday.

Illinois prisons in population crisis

The war on drugs has driven Illinois prison numbers up sharply as corrections officials work to add beds. With 24,869 inmates in a facility built for 18,760, plans call for over 5,100 more beds in four years while the population is expected to rise by nearly 9,000. Johansen finalist for DeSoto District superintendent post

Dr. Kent Johansen, Dixon High School principal since 1984 85 and former Dixon assistant principal since 1979, is one of two finalists for the DeSoto District superintendent job in DeSoto Missouri a 3200 student K 12 district about 50 miles southwest of Alton Illinois decision expected Thursday evening Johansen previously ranked in Davenport Iowa top three for an assistant superintendent post and has signaled interest in the Dixon opening though formal applications have not yet started
