Tornado strikes devastate Allendale Illinois homes and business
In Allendale near the Illinois Indiana line a Saturday tornado left about one third of homes destroyed or damaged and nine businesses wiped out. Gov. James R. Thompson visited the scene and said a state disaster declaration would be sought to qualify for federal aid as salvage operations began and 27 are hospitalized. Damages are estimated at over 3 million with the town of 450 people facing critical recovery needs.
