Judge grants directive verdict in Higdon sex assault case
Ogle County Circuit Judge John Moore granted a directive verdict Thursday in the case against Monroe Center businessman Jim Higdon, acquitting him of sexually assaulting a 19 year old outside the Monroe Center Tap on Sept 24, 1987. Defense attorney Bruce Wellman sought dismissal after the state rested, arguing the burden of proof was unmet. The state said the decision was a judgment call, noting no torn clothing or bruises indicated force, and two witnesses could not be located.

Chicago police seek man in shotgun slaying of father
Chicago investigators say 23 year old Charles Wigdahl may still be in the Chicago area after allegedly shooting his father Arthur Wigdahl a 58 year old electrician. A fugitive warrant will be sought and the FBI may be asked to assist. The suspect left a tape and handwritten note atop the body confessing to the killing and claiming he fled the state. He told a landlord he killed his father and asked forgiveness in a call to a local TV station. He said his father pointed the shotgun at him before the fatal shot.
