Gas Company Confusion Over Walton Elevator Bill Error

The elevator, dry grain with gas off since October, would normally be about 22 thousand dollars monthly. A misread meter added a million therms, then a hand generated bill was entered into the system. A corrected bill for 8 dollars is being sent to Tom and Sheila Drew.

Reagan to seek 50 percent pay hikes for top federal officials

President Reagan notified Congress he will include 50 percent raises in the 1990 budget for 2,498 top officials including the vice president, speaker, members of Congress, and federal judges. He argues higher pay is necessary to attract capable leaders and to keep service open to all Americans, noting costs would be absorbed within the budget and not add to the deficit.
