Ogle County Prosecutor Opposes Abortion Clinic Settlement
Ogle County State's Attorney Dennis Schumacher joins three peers in opposing a Rockford abortion clinic settlement. The deal would ease staffing and facility rules and allow abortions through all nine months, with funding concerns for taxpayers if the case remains in dispute. Schumacher argues the matter belongs before the Supreme Court and warns of up to 750000 in legal fees if the settlement proceeds.

Rochelle council blocks Del Monte waste dump at Rochelle landfill
Rochelle city council rejected Del Monte Corporation’s bid to dump 15.55 drums of special waste from a paint thinner spill at the landfill citing landfill protection concerns. Mayor Gail Loefgren warned approving such dumping could invite other requests and noted IEPA permits would likely follow. Council also discussed Caron International’s cyanide waste and a Kentucky disposal option as costly. The panel unanimously denied Del Monte’s request and a IEPA permit path. The meeting also reappointed John O’Brien to the Streets board and approved IEPA grant documents for wastewater plant phases, a $275,000 supplemental appropriation, and a pending update to the employee handbook.
