A large 127 acre Paw Paw development aims to add about 500 homes starting with six initial houses. Village leaders see demand rising as population grew from 520 in 1970 to 1,350 in 1990. Prices target 70 000 to 80 000 with 1500 square foot layouts and a central park and perimeter path.
A 14-year-old girl, Maureen Lamerdin of Glenbrook Nevada, survived a night in a snow cave she built on the back side of Heavenly Valley ski resort near South Lake Tahoe. She slept in the rough shelter and exercised to stay warm as temperatures dropped to near zero with a record low of seven below in Reno after a weekend storm.
The Illinois Economic and Fiscal Commission cut current year revenue by 82 million and projects General Funds growth of 2.1 percent next year. Corporate tax receipts fall 10.2 percent in seven months, while sales tax climbs only 3 percent.
A 7 year old girl returning from school discovered smoke at the Maxwell residence near Rochelle. Neighbors alerted firefighters as Steward Flagg Center Creston and Rochelle teams battled the blaze from 3 26 p m to 5 20 p m. No injuries occurred though two cats were killed and losses were estimated at 25 000. The fire is under investigation with no arson suspected and the family room deemed the likely origin.

It notes 390000 U.S. deaths yearly and per capita costs from 56 to 284, with California highest at 5.8 billion and Alaska lowest at 82 million. Health official Sullivan urges tighter anti smoking push and restraint by advertisers.
