The Dixon Park Board will discuss a proposed bike and walking trail linking Cement Avenue with Lowell Park Road in tonight's meeting. The plan aims to improve local recreation and accessibility for residents.
The Dixon centennial included a September 24 1930 statue dedication of Abraham Lincoln on the Rock River site once Fort Dixon. Sculptor Leonard Crunelle created the 10 foot bronze statue on a nine foot pedestal, with Gov Louis Emmerson as speaker and Lorado Taft introducing Crunelle. Lincoln at age 23 as a Blackhawk War soldier is depicted, believed unique for a young Lincoln statue.
