A group of officials from Lee Whiteside Bureau Carroll and Stephenson counties met to discuss applying for an IEPA grant to study solid waste disposal options. Whiteside County faces landfill space limits with a 1990 closing date. Graf Anhalt and Schloemer Associates were hired to draft a plan. Total estimated Lee County cost about 17000 dollars. No decisions were made and counties will respond after February meetings.

Wild pig chase in Rochelle roars through town
Illinois State Trooper Ken Clark led a 35 minute chase as three adult pigs escaped being trucked to FDL Foods for slaughter. Pig one was corralled near Hickerson Repair and one at Super Wash on Highway 251. A second pig weighed about 250 pounds. a third remained at large at press time.

Towing begins in Dixon to clear snow from curb to curb
Dixon Police started towing 16 vehicles to the city impound lot to clear streets after a snowfall. Owners may reclaim their cars by paying a $25 towing fee, a $7 snow removal fine, and any accumulated storage charges. Plowing expected to finish by nightfall.
