Massive Australian quake devastates Newcastle area

A 5.5 to 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck New South Wales near Newcastle injuring at least 120 and killing 11. Nine deaths occurred at the Newcastle Workers Club with two more from a shopping center awning collapse. Emergency crews, army aid, and evacuations followed as extensive damage and looting fears prompted a major response.

Moderate 4.3 Quake Hits San Bernardino Area

A 4.3 magnitude earthquake shook seven miles northwest of San Bernardino and parts of Los Angeles County at 3:41 a.m. CST with an aftershock of 3.3 at 2 a.m. and a 3.2 foreshock the previous day. No injuries or damage were reported. residents felt a light rolling motion in central Los Angeles. Seismologists warned of possible aftershocks.

Objection Filed to Petitions Against Manzullo Candidacy

The 16th district Republican State Central Committeeman Thomas Hawes of Roscoe filed objections to Donald Manzullo of Egan in the nominating petitions. Hawes cited two addresses listed by Manzullo and said a legal challenge was made to keep the issue from affecting the ballot. Manzullo denied faults, stating he filed more than enough signatures and that the 400 Washington address is a campaign site.
