Cross vigil in Oregon stalled over rights-of-way permit
Red Cross and Oregon SADD seek state and county permission to place 45 white crosses marking traffic fatalities in Ogle County since 1985. First two crosses already set at Daysville Cemetery with rights-of-way approval pending and a county board push to deny due to an advertising ordinance and concerns for families involved.

Gift of life for Sublette family blessed by liver transplant
Grandparents Delbert and Joan Bonnell of Sublette celebrate their grandson Matthew Larson receiving a liver transplant at the University of Wisconsin in Madison on December 16. The 6-year-old boy, son of Nadine Bonnell Larson and Dennis Larson, faces recovery from a 72 hour surgery with hopes of home by Christmas Eve. The donor was a 7-year-old from New Jersey. Insurance covers the transplant, but transportation and donor-related healthcare costs will leave tens of thousands owed. A relief fund has been set up at The Sublette Bank and The First National Bank of Amboy to aid the Larson family.

Amboy boards approves part time counselor contract
Amboy School District approves a contract with Lutheran Social Services to provide seven hours daily of counseling for students next year. Pat Schwantas will staff about 3 hours at the junior high and 32 hours at the high school weekly, at 25 dollars per hour totaling 3150 for the semester. The district aims to save money versus hiring its own counselor, with possible future assistance from the Educational Foundation. The move comes as principals note social problems in need of attention and an experiment is planned, with a June contract end if ineffective. The district also approves a plan for a weight room addition funded by the Clipper Backers with a member loan co-signed by backers.
