Bush voices frustration over Panamanian crisis amid Noriega stance

President Bush said the Panama situation is an enormous concern as Panamanian forces confront U.S. personnel. He avoided discussing possible actions against Gen Manuel Noriega while noting the killing of a U.S. officer and abuse of two other Americans near Panama City. The U.S. Southern Command ordered personnel to stay on bases as Panamanian troops stayed on high alert.

Gas prices fall further in year end drop

LOS ANGELES UPI Trilby Lundberg reports the year's final Lundberg Survey shows average gasoline prices at 106.41 cents per gallon as of Dec 15 across 13,000 stations. Self serve regular unleaded 94.36 cents, premium 112.09 cents, regular leaded 93.53. full serve 125.45, 138.62, 123.20. Seasonal autumn decline continues amid weaker demand and colder weather. Retail margins shrink as stores sacrifice profits for winter sales.

Dixon Patrolman Enters Sheriff Race in Lee County

Dixon Police Patrolman Larry Morgan announced his March primary bid for sheriff. He plans to file petitions today, the final filing day, and will oppose incumbent Republican Sheriff Tim Bivins. Morgan joined the Dixon Police Department on Sept. 7, 1987, and has completed narcotics training courses.

Record cold grips nation as Ohio hits 105-year low

United Press International reports a relentless cold snap that shattered a 105-year Ohio record and drove temperatures below zero in the South mid-Atlantic and Midwest. Across ten states, including Peoria and Columbus, the frigid air brought record lows, heavy snow, and multiple deaths while forecasters warned of more snow from two low-pressure systems and a Gulf storm triggering sleet and freezing rain in the South.

USF&G Moves Forward in Dixon Building Expansion

USF&G occupies 22,000 sq ft of its new Dixon downtown home as plans proceed for a 10,000 sq ft two story west addition for Brown Bag Deli, Pharmacy, and Medical Arts Clinic. Bids expected for January with completion aimed between May and June, interior design bids in ~60 days.
