Illinois Bell proposes restructuring of rates
Illinois Bell on Tuesday proposed restructuring its rates to raise $50 million in additional revenues while lowering business rates to boost competitiveness amid telephone deregulation. Residential bills outside Chicago would rise by 22.92 dollars annually starting January 1990, with another 12 dollars annual increase over two years. outside Chicago business bills would fall by 38.40 dollars. The plan extends pay once usage based pricing to most service areas including Rockford, Quad Cities, Peoria, Champaign, Springfield, Decatur and East St. Louis. The Illinois Commerce Commission will hear the proposal, which would total a 35 million dollar rate cut offset by removing an 85 million dollar temporary cut from 1986 tax reform. The Citizens Utility Board criticized the proposal.
