Farm Bureau backs state income tax hike in Illinois
Illinois Farm Bureau president John White said the group will back a 2.5 to 3.5 percent hike in individual income tax and 4 to 5.6 percent in corporate tax to fund education and cut property taxes under the CHIEF plan. The initiative aims to raise about 1.4 billion dollars annually, with 560 million for property tax relief and 840 million for education, including education reform and mandated program funding. The plan, endorsed by the Farm Bureau at its Springfield meeting, also calls for freezing future property tax increases unless approved by local referendum.
