Cecile Bales, a Steward resident, was named Ace of the Year in Rockford for leadership with SHARE. The award honors efforts to motivate workers and exchanges projects for commodities across 15 counties in northern Illinois and eastern Iowa. Dixon firemen tackle stubborn rubbish blaze at 1000 Taylor Court
Dixon City and Rural fire departments battled a stubborn rubbish fire at 1000 Taylor Court from mid afternoon Monday until about 10:30 this morning. The rubbish included wood from demolished buildings planned for the USF&G site. Two Rural tankers delivered 25 loads of water each until a deck gun aided by the city pumper was used. Ralph Mills Excavating assisted to uncover the material for extinguishing.
