Dixon library issue headed to voters March 20
A March 20 referendum will ask residents outside Dixon to approve a rural library district. Lee County Judge Magdich ordered the election after a 15 minute hearing. Eligible voters span Dixon Palmyra Dixon Nelson South Dixon Nachusa Harmon Lee and Ogle County townships. A $45 000 Project PLUS grant supports the plan with a 15 cent tax per 100 of assessed value, matching the current Dixon rate. Some farmers oppose the tax though rural residents could receive free library cards via Project PLUS until June when the grant ends.
