Bush signs sweeping plan to reform S and L industry

California Quake Aftershocks Could Last Five Days

Aftershocks from a central coast earthquake rattled California and could persist for five days. The 5.2 quake and a sequence of aftershocks were felt as far as Marin County and the Bay Area. Authorities warned the intensity might rise and reminded residents to stay alert.

Gas prices dip despite new tax in Dixon area

Local gas stations in Dixon reported prices holding or dropping after the 3 cent per gallon gas tax took effect. Managers cited falling wholesale costs as offsetting tax increases, with several stations posting penny to three cent declines and some below a dollar per gallon. AAA Chicago Motor Club noted further drops could come as wholesale prices fall.
