Storm sweeps through Illinois counties damaging trees and flooding roads

A statewide storm pounded Lee and Ogle counties with high winds and lightning, cutting power to about 50,000 homes and flooding streets from the Quad Cities to Chicago suburbs. Rockford reported 54 mph winds and up to four inches of rain with up to 2 inches in Dixon and Rochelle, while forecasts predicted more thundershowers and humid conditions before a Sunday clearing. Farmers welcomed the moisture as harvest season nears, with soybean cuts set for late September and corn by early October.
