Eiffel Tower marks 100th anniversary with staged ascent
An actor in a top hat reenacted Gustave Eiffel’s 1889 climb of the tower, reaching the top in just over an hour with about 30 performers in period dress. At the summit he raised the French flag as a 21 gun salute and confetti shower celebrated the centennial.

Farmers plan to boost plantings across corn soybeans and wheat
UPI reports American farmers plan large expansions in corn soybeans and wheat acreage this year due to high prices after last year’s drought. Iowa and Illinois expect 1 million extra corn acres each, lifting national corn to 73.3 million acres, with soybeans up 5 percent to 61.7 million and wheat up 13 percent to 74.3 million. Cotton acreage falls, record American Pima planned.

Oil deliveries delayed by Alaska spill cleanup
NEW YORK UPI Deliveries of Alaska oil will be delayed until at least next week due to cleanup of last week's spill the largest in U.S. history.
