Henry E. Morrison files for divorce from Almira FE Morrison citing desertion and infidelity and requests custody of their two minor children. The couple wed in Michigan in 1915. John Doe Kuch named as co respondent. Also, Mrs. Co. i. Warrison seeks letters of administration for the estate of GC. E. Suarrison, valued about 2500. A. S. Dashiell applies for letters on the estates of Mary Jane and Benjamin I. Dashiell, total about 3000. Rosa Flood petitions for letters testamentary on the estate of Jas. Baskerville, about 7500. Four aventi DeCarli seeks letters testamentary for the estate of Jas. DeCarli, estate personal property 7603.51 and 14820 acres real estate valued at 100000. Nellie C. Ukiah and Hopland high school teams played a fine game on the local diamond for the ex-service men athletic fund at the state hospital. About $50 was raised. Metzler pitched for Hopland and Connolly hit a home run. Ukiah won bh to 6 in a clean, sportsmanlike contest.
The Improved Order of Red Men from Marin Mendocino and Humboldt gather in Ukiah on Saturday June 10 with over 100 candidates to be adopted. Yulupa Petaluma and Genesee tribes lead degree conferrals as dignitaries from San Diego Santa Rosa San Francisco present awards. A Sunday June 11 powwow and banquet follow with Daughters of Pocahontas as guests.
Victor Weisse and Miss Wanda Straub were married at the Hagans home in this city last Sunday with Rev. Martin of the Christian church officiating. They left for Fort Bragg Monday where Mr. Weisse has a permanent position and will make their home. A large group of Ukiah friends extend best wishes to Ned and his bride.
Mrs. Jessie Redwine and Mrs. Guy Redwine hosted the Presbyterian church ladies yesterday afternoon at the Redwine residence. The program featured two piano solos by Mrs. Edgar Stout, a reading by Miss Virginia Barker, and a piano solo by Miss Robinson. Refreshments were served by the hosts to thirty five guests.
Mendocino County Fair Association of Ukiah announces first Yo Kay O Pow Wow and Harvest Festival running September 16 to 18 with an eight day program across Mendocino and adjacent counties. Underwriting totals reach 11,000, with Chamber of Commerce backing and a 100 by 620 foot tent planned. Notables considered include Governor Stephens Henry Ford Amy McPherson Luther Burbank and more.
Arthur Shultis, newly elected to lead farm mechanics in Ukiah High School, is visiting farmers to shape the curriculum and gauge student interest for next fall. He will stay temporarily, planning a permanent department with his Berkeley home in August.
Dr. Judson Liftchild and his wife and son traveled from the city to Ukiah for a visit, returning home on Tuesday. They were joined by Arnold Custer, a former Ukiah resident, during the trip.
The Stewart Fruit Co plans a Ukiah depot to buy pears and grapes and ship on consignment. F. J. Mason has been at the Palace hotel reviewing the setup. Everett Cox, connected with the company, met Mr. Mason during the stay. The firm expects a heavy yield this fall.
Elbert Holland scored last week with three responses to a Dispatch want ad. The returns totaled over seven dollars on a quarter investment, showcasing a remarkable brief success for a local reader.
Ukiah baseball edged Willits 5-4 as Jimmie Busch, a high school sophomore, delivered a clutch hit in the bottom of the final frame off Cleary. Broaddus pitched a stellar game for Ukiah with 14 strikeouts, and the victory sets up a rematch against Lakeport next Sunday.
Ukiah fans will see an exhibition Sunday June 11 featuring the Ukiah ball team and Sales Manager Smith of Durant Motors. Durant Motors will display four and six cylinder cars from Oakland with the company family traveling in Durant cars. Manager Witt leads a strong local ball squad as part of the joint event combining a baseball game and auto exhibit at the local sales rooms.
Cecil I. Snodgrass and Miss Ruby Naomi Tuttle, both of Santa Rosa, were married at noon last Sunday in Ukiah at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Hurt with Rev. Elbert Holland officiating. A wedding dinner followed, hosted by the Hurt couple, and the newlyweds returned to Santa Rosa Monday to start life together. Present were the bride’s mother Mrs. Omar Bates of Covelo, and the Hurt family.
A son born May 28 to Mr and Mrs Glenn Pool of Ukiah, named Beverly Glenn Pool Beverly for Beverly Broaddus Ukiah’s pitcher and Glenn Pool for the father famed for turning hard games into victories with his bat and slugging. Ukiah fans extend congratulations.
The fire department seeks fiction or reference books to fill an empty gym bookcase. Donors are asked to bring items to George Lambert at the city hall.
Mrs. Burrey city librarian was stricken by a serious illness the first of the week and remains confined to the house. Friends express hope for her speedy return to health.
City officials swear out a warrant against H L Kohn loe cat grocer for selling liquor in violation of the dry ordinance. Witnesses say Kohn sold Ernest Dunsing Jr a gallon of corn whiskey for twelve dollars. Kohn admits liquor was left by a moonshiner and says he handed it to Dunsing on order. a quart bottle was surrendered.
In a British statement, Postmaster General F G Kellaway lauds America's long distance telephone service as far ahead of Britain. He credits bold problem solving and audacity in U S telephony and calls it the home of long distance telephony.
Judge Hurley dismissed the case against local chiropractor Ralph Blend after finding no evidence of practicing medicine without a license. The state medical board prosecutors failed to show Blend used medicines in treatment. An attorney for the board led the prosecution.
Joel Vann, a Potter Valley native known in Round Valley and Westport where he lived, died here last Sunday. The funeral was held Tuesday. He left no widow, two daughters including Mrs. Carrie Dunn of Westport, a son Ernest of Westport, and a sister Mrs. Alice Bucknell of this city.
H. A. Swift died suddenly at Vichy Springs after a brief swim in the plunge bath. He left the plunge and was in his dressing room when an attack of heart trouble overtook him. The remains were shipped to San Francisco Monday for cremation.
The Young Peoples Lyceum Club of Redwood Valley held a social last Saturday at the Grange hall featuring speaking and dialogs, concluding with a social dance. On Decoration Day members spent hours picnick ing at Blue Lake.
The American Legion hosts a dance tomorrow evening at the Legion pavilion with the Native Son's Orchestra providing jazz. Proceeds go to the Legion building fund, inviting generous patronage from the community.
J A Ramey of Talmage bought a new Durant. Walter Hughes was in town late last week. Miss Henrietta Woods of Potter Valley visited Ukiah last Saturday. Ralph Duncan and family of Willits visited Chas Duncan’s family on Sunday. Mrs Bertha Kranek, formerly of the city, visited on Decoration Day. Miss Jane Thompson left Saturday for Long Beach for several weeks visiting friends and relatives. Bo Lester Bertsch of Fort Bragg visited his brother Frank Bertsch in the city early this month.
