Republicans Win Big in 1900 County Elections

The 1900 election produced a national Republican landslide and shifted county power decisively. Wm Hanen won the assembly seat over J. C. Ruddock, R. H. Rawles defeated Sam Duncan for supervisor, and Len Barnard beat John Flanagan. C. P. Smith narrowly retained his supervisor post amid a Democratic decline. Bryan carried the state and McKinley nationally, with Ruddock, Hanen, and Smith as the notable local returns.
