Governor Outlines Montana State Liquor Policy
Governor Frank Cooney released a statement detailing Montana liquor law provisions. The plan envisions state owned stores in 56 county seats and possible additional outlets, with a central distributing warehouse in Helena. Liquor would be sold only through state stores and not consumed on premises. The state board of examiners will enforce rules. members include the governor, Attorney General Raymond T. Nagle, and Secretary of State Sam Mitchell. State vendors will be salaried and chosen on merit, not politics.

Predators Killed in August Report Totals 88 Animals
A monthly report to R T Ferguson from R E Bateman shows August predator removals reaching 88 animals. Seventy six coyotes, one bobcat and ten bears were killed, with bears and coyotes responsible for 847 and 187 sheep losses respectively. One hunter targets a Big Timber bear destroying livestock valued over 600 dollars.

John H Keenan, Beaverhead Ranchman, Dies at Home
John H. Keenan a longtime Beaverhead valley ranchman died at his home north of the city after a lingering illness. Born in Ireland on St Patrick's Day 1867 he came to America as a young man and settled near Dillon in 1895 becoming a naturalized citizen. He is survived by his widow a son John four daughters Mary Katherine Agnes and Ellen a sister Mrs Pat Laden and a brother Pat Keenan. Funeral services were held at St Rose Catholic church at 10 o clock Wednesday with interment in Mountain View cemetery.

Hundreds Register for New Public Works Under Wagner Act
About 100 men registered for the Beaverhead Madison public works program supervised by the forestry office. A. A. Simpson says 15 crews will work across Beaverhead National Forest mainly fencing ranges. Workers may board at camps or have meals deducted from wages. Registrations are for public works, with veterans with dependents given priority, and have no relation to relief efforts.

Horses on Highway Cause Crash Near City
Early Sunday a car driven by Dr. E G Free struck two horses that dashed onto the road from a cross street five miles south of town. Both horses died. Passengers Miss Edith Saxton and Homer Faust were injured, with Saxton remaining in Barrett hospital. The car was nearly telescoped. A motorist Rolin Thibo deau aided the injured. A proposed state bill to prohibit livestock on fenced highways failed in committee.

New Postmaster Named for Dillon
Harry J. Andrus, a Dillon businessman, has been appointed acting postmaster for Dillon after receiving confirmation from Washington last Saturday. He will take office October 1, succeeding Joseph C. Fuller, who led the office for eight years. Andrus is a Beaverhead county native with education from local schools the Army and Navy Academy in San Diego Stanford University and the University of Montana. He previously worked in St Louis brokerage and has chaired the county Democratic central committee.

Intercounty Farmers Union Formed At Sheridan
Delegates from Beaverhead and Madison counties form an intercounty union at a Sheridan meeting. Officers elected include J B Garrison as president of the consolidated group and Mrs H E Stone as vice president. The Gasoline Consumers Co operative Association plan is endorsed and a Frazier bill support pledge is adopted. The group calls for federal banking and credit to be run as a public utility.
