H M Brundage claimed the 1927 Dillon Country Club 86 hole title over Lawrence Price in a tightly played final. Brundage reached the final by defeating McCracken Tash and Price while Price beat Bond and Stone. The event drew 82 entrants with the course record of 41 tied several times.
Dillon residents praised the first annual flower show at Metlen block last Friday and Saturday. The display impressed visitors with a wide variety of blossoms and vegetables, sparking plans for larger spring plantings. The event drew large attendance and statewide interest, with Miss Marjorie Williams and local groups providing music. The West Side exhibit won first prize for the most attractive booth, along with the children’s booth in the awards tabulation by Chairman T Luebben.
The county commissioners called for bids to build a fence along the right of way of the new state road from Browne's bridge south. Bids will be opened at 10 oclock Sept 17 with plans and specs available at the county clerk or surveyor offices.
Ole K Moe a Montana State University graduate will succeed Bruce A Hollister as coach at the Normal college this fall. He is expected to field one of the best football teams in its history aided by new athletic facilities. A key early game is the Mount St Charles clash in Dillon on Oct 8.
A Star sedan driven by Frank Gorman and a Buick touring car driven by Clarence Decker collided Tuesday evening at Idaho and Sebree. They sideswiped each other as they approached the intersection. both cars suffered heavy damage to fenders and running boards.
Miss Anna Patterson and Mrs N FE Stone depart with Mrs B N Stevenson and Miss Marjorie Stevenson for Billings. Stevenson accepts a faculty position at the new Normal College there and will spend several days visiting and settling in.
City schools began the fall term with about 700 pupils returning to classes. Training school enrollment reached 433 in the first two days, with total expected near last year’s figure as registrations finish in September. New teachers Wynne Hedrick York Booth join a staff led by principal Mrs. Helen Sipple Jones and instructors across primary and upper grade levels.
Preparations are underway to welcome the autumn quarter with repairs and renovations completed. The textbook library now holds about ten thousand volumes and students pay two dollars per quarter for rental. An entry exam for new students is set for 1 PM on September 12 to guide registration for those absent.
Afar in the southwestern corner of Montana the Beaverhead valley is framed by the Rocky mountains and crowned with snow. The Beaverhead river winds through cottonwood groves to join the Jefferson and Missouri, while a lone promontory near Dillon marks a historic lookout used by Bannocks Piegans and Lemhi during tribal times.
