Mrs. Ray Leverich Heads Beavenhead County Federation

At Melrose on October 20, 1934, Mrs. Ray Leverich of Wisdom was elected president with Mrs. O A Bergeson Dillon first vice president and Mrs H W Norris Melrose second vice president. Mrs W L Hughes re elected secretary treasurer for 1934 36. The meeting featured songs, solos, a piano program and talks on club work with resolutions endorsing education on alcohol effects and Montana product purchases. The next meeting will be in Wisdom in May 1935.

Beaverhead County Sees Record General Election Vote Expected

Beaverhead county voters prepare for the November 6 general election amid a record number of absentee ballots. Albert Baker, county clerk and recorder, reports over 100 absentee ballots requested and a total of 4,100 eligible voters. Both parties intensify campaign efforts as election day nears.

F J Hagenbarth Dies at 66 in Santa Barbara

F J Hagenbarth 66, longtime Woods Livestock associate and resident of Santa Barbara, died last Saturday night at his home. His body will be shipped to Salt Lake for interment. He was well known in Beaverhead county and often visited Dillon during his years with Woods Livestock company.

Potato Grading Demonstrated By Federal Inspector In Dillon

H L Sargent of Butte, a federal potato inspector, led a grading demonstration at the Western Wholesale warehouse in Dillon on Monday. He showed No 1 potatoes and explained grading standards while displaying blue ribbon exhibits won by grower W L Irvine at the Idaho potato show. County Agent Bernard Williams reports that the federal cattle buying program in Beaverhead County is closed, with no further purchases or shipments, while the sheep quota increases from 30 000 to 32 000 and the extra 2 000 will be bought by sorters promptly.

Mining Associations to Meet in Butte

Beaverhead Mining association has invited members to the Mining Association of Montana meeting in Butte on Saturday November 3. The program includes technical talks from Butte engineers at the Finlen hotel and discussions on RFC loans PERA roads and prospects of higher gold and silver prices during the business session.

William Jaynes returned from Lemhi country this week with a remarkable apple. The fruit measures 15.4 inches in circumference and weighs 114 pounds, now on display in the Tribune office window.

Leavitt Speaks on Peace Park at Rotary Dinner

Dillon Rotary Club heard Congressman Scott Leavitt emphasize amicable international relations and the Waterton Glacier International Peace Park as a symbol of cooperation between the United States and Canada. Dr. Robert E. Albright outlined plans for federal loans to homeowners for improvements and noted club attendance. Henry G. Rodger and other guests attended.

Bulldogs Edge Ricks in Idaho Opener Despite Loss

Normal College Bulldogs opened with Ricks College in Rexburg Idaho losing 80 to 6 but showing promise. The veteran Vikings, heavier on both lines, were blanked in the second half. Red Hamilton connected with Mc Ginley for the lone TD while Dych’s drop kick failed for the extra point.

Hunters Urged to Check Game for Deer Foot Worms

E. D. Sanding, acting forest supervisor of Beaverhead National Forest, asks deer and elk hunters in Beaverhead and Madison counties to skin out feet to hoof and inspect for worms indicating a new deer foot-worm disease. Worms are white tough 8 to 10 inches, found under skin between hoof and ankle or entrenched in foot tendons.

At a Beaverhead county meeting Leonard Schulz was named chairman and William Backus vice chairman. Mrs Clyde Sewell is secretary and J Leonard Innes treasurer. An advisory committee includes F M Merrill Jr Ralph G Smith Dan Pendengast Tom Clemon and Mrs Ralph Huntley. The club will appoint two delegates per precinct. Scott Leavitt spoke at a rally with candidates from the Medlen hotel urging campaign issues.

Beaverhead joined other Montana counties in forming 4-H clubs at a Friday courthouse meeting. Charles EK Potter of Bozeman state 4-H club leader attended. Butte Business Delegation Makes Good Will Tour Stop in Dillon

Butte merchants and professionals arrived by about 50 cars, spent the night in Dillon, and continued to Twin Bridges Whitehall and Bozeman. The Beaverhead county high school band greeted the visitors and the crowd gave them a hearty Dillon welcome. A banquet at St James guild hall featured toastmaster A. T. Merkle and a spirit of friendship and fellowship.
