An opinion article by James A. Edgerton argues the sugar price rise stems from a reduced refinery output by the sugar trust, driven by investigation pressures and profits, while blaming tariffs and a skewed market. It cites trusts as raising costs for consumers and notes past frauds tied to scales and beet sugar interests.
