Train Collision Near New Orleans Leaves Dozens Injured
Engineer Simpson of East Louisiana failed to stop at a crossing two miles from Elysianfields as the Louisville and Nashville Across the Lake excursion train neared the Northeastern tracks. The sixth coach of the Louisville and Nashville train derailed into a ditch, injuring a large number of passengers, with several seriously hurt and at least one probable fatality. Witnesses blamed Simpson for the crash and an inquiry followed.
