Sheriff Gist raids Dillon gambling joint and arrests

Sheriff Duke Gist Under Sheriff Dart and City Treasurer Sid Johnson raided a Dillon gambling den on Friday night. Three arrests followed with bonds set at 50 dollars each though the two men fled town after posting. Paraphernalia for Fan Tan and a new roulette table were seized.

Rich Strike Leads in Christie Claim Near Hecla in Bryant District

A Christie claim adjacent to the Hecla in Bryant mining district yields rich silver ore of the Hecla grade. Owned by H J Just Charles Christie and John Haylor the 400 by 800 foot fraction sits west of Hecla with a shaft down 26 feet in solid rock. Ore appears similar to Hecla ore once sold for $2 000 a ton and a mining expert values the claim at $10 000 as discovered. The piece may prove a bonanza reviving the old Heels camp.

Virginia City Pioneer Richard Caswell Dies at Ruby Valley Ranch

Richard Caswell, a highly regarded Madison county resident, died at his Ruby valley ranch Wednesday morning from dropsy. Born in Ireland in 1818, he emigrated to Canada in 1831 and moved to Aldergulch in 1864, later taking a ranch at his current site. Survived by his wife and son Anson Caswell of the Upper Ruby, he was a Mason lodge member and left many mourners in the community.

Charged With Cattle Stealing in Two Montana Courts

H. P. Husted of Big Hole basin was arrested and brought to Dillon on cattle theft charges. Witness Mr. Stewart testified in Justice Wirmilton’s court, where Husted was released on bonds. A second case in Justice Staley’s Wis dom court was continued to the 23rd as witness Mr. Magdale did not appear.

Farlin to Wed Jackson in Dillon Engagement Notice

Mr and Mrs Obas Dishno of Fox announce the approaching marriage of granddaughter Emma Bertha Farlin to Martin O Jackson. The wedding will occur in Dillon on Tuesday October 27. Both are well known in the Bighole basin with many friends sending best wishes. Jim Ryan Arrested For Stolen Goods Charge

Jim Ryan was arrested Tuesday on a charge of disposing of stolen goods to a second-hand store. He was taken to Rich County this morning and sentenced to six months in the county jail.

Busy Week for County Clerk with Real Estate Deeds and Mining Locates

County Clerk Baker and Deputy Clair Baker reported a busy week with many instruments recorded. Deeds included Wm Haney to Moses Loree for Lot 11-13 in block 9 Dillon, Collins to Cornell 80 acres in Township 8S 8W and 40 acres in Township 7S 7W, and others for $100 to $5,800. Water right locations and several mining claims were filed, listing multiple creeks and districts.

Helen Kelly Slayer Beckman Captured in Dillon

Albert Beckman says Miss Helen Kelly used him for money and planned to marry him as motive for the Dakota lodging-house killing. He was captured at Glen by Sheriff Quinn and Officer Grace, then brought to Dillon for questioning and later returned to Butte.
