Rotary Meeting Highlights Business Personality Talk

Basil Edwards of Salt Lake City spoke on personality in business at the Dillon Rotary in a Monday evening session. He warned that technical skill alone does not guarantee success and urged balance with a strong human element to win customers and foster lasting patronage.

Gargoyle Club to Present Three Plays and Musical Program

The December 2 assembly program features Marjorie Gaines performing Valse Impromptu, Bill Bates and Frances Robinson performing two violin duets, plus Fred Gray and Mary Hester Decker solo acts. The Gargoyles will perform three one act plays on December 3. The semi annual Kappa Zeta Nu dance occurs December 5 with pledges named.

St Rose Guild Card Party Draws Large Crowd

The St. Rose guild card party Thursday night at the hall drew a large attendance. Door prize went to Mrs G T Paul, ladies first prize to Mrs A R Allsup, with Mrs T K Julson low score for ladies. J N McLean was high scorer for the men and D Y Kannegaard received the low prize. Entertainment committee members were Mrs J C Fuller, Mrs Gertrude French, Mrs Leroy Gilbert and Mrs Joseph Gelhaus.

Renfro Receives Mounted Pigeon Trophy From International Shoot

Ted Renfro of Dell the world champion live bird shooter holds a mounted Spanish wild pigeon trophy as a tribute from foreign admirers following last year’s Monte Carlo international shoot. Renfro is praised as a top sportsman after 19 major shoots in the grand classic and remains undecided on representing the United States in the next international event.

Testimony Taken In Transfer Franchise Hearing

Francis Silver of the Montana railroad commission and stenographer Paul Van Dyke heard testimony Friday in county court on Featherly Transfer company's freight franchise request between Butte and Dillon. Dillon businessmen and traffic experts testified. John E B Corette represented the railroad company and Rodgers and Collins for the transfer group. A decision will be rendered later.

Old-Time Dillon Resident Dies in Ohio

Dillon friends wish to note the death of Mrs. Byron Cunnard on November 7 at Mt. Gilead Ohio. A longtime resident who moved to the city in 1885 she will be remembered by many old-time residents. She leaves a son Charles of Detroit and a brother H. E. Green of Denver.

The Big Hole Lions club in Wisdom plans a dance and dinner next Saturday evening to raise funds for new fire fighting equipment. The Knights of Bermingham Masonic lodge will present a community entertainment on the same night.

Blizzard Closes Roads and Bursts Pipes in Dillon

Dillon residents faced a northward blizzard last Friday with heavy snow and very cold temps. A second storm Saturday night deepened the snow to several inches while readings dropped to 35 below in Grant and 20 below elsewhere. Vehicles suffered frozen radiators, water pipes burst at the Nelson residence, and plumbers worked to thaw lines as Monida Pass opened after a temporary closure. county roads varied in condition with most later reported good.

Lieutenant Governor Frank Hazelbaker owns a carved shield memorial made from World War I relics collected after tours of Argonne Belleau Wood Cantigny and more. The shield, crafted by William Morrison from splinters, rifle stocks, and a canvas st to form a rising sun motif, showcases an olive drab blanket fragment and battlefield labels behind glass.

Brother of Ralph Harding Drowned in Oregon

Ralph Harding of the Texas Oil company learned last week that his half brother Chester Gehrig drowned near Hood River Oregon the preceding Monday. Marvin Harding of Billings, who came with him, accompanied him to Oregon that evening. The body had not been recovered and no details were learned here.

Tax receipts show drop in year to date collections

Early tax collection totals appeared higher but county treasurer Miss Bertie Mathews reports about 48000 dollars less than the previous year by Tuesday close. A final rush is expected in the last three business days before the 6 PM Monday deadline.

Day officers arrest three at Antlers on Idaho street

Two members of Carl Jacksons force from Butte visited the city last Friday and made three arrests at the Antlers establishment on Idaho street. The three defendants were arraigned before U S Commissioner F A Hazelbaker and released.
