Beaverhead and Madison county sheepmen attended a Thursday meeting at City Hall to discuss industry issues and form the Southern Montana Woolgrowers Association. Speakers included J H Gilbert and Montana State College’s Robert Waddell on wool quality, grazing and policy with railroads, tariff effects, and a plan to organize led by J E Morse.

D. A. R. offers silver cup for county history essay

Beaverhead chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a meeting with Mrs. J. B. Holtz hosting. Professor W. J. Bierrum outlined an essay contest for Beaverhead county history at the high school with a silver loving cup as the prize, deadline December 20.

Local Carriers Handle Over 20 000 Pieces Mail Weekly

Three Dillon city carriers handle 20 357 pieces of mail weekly over six work days. Total mail weight is 1 843 pounds. They serve 830 families and travel 40 miles daily. The heaviest day delivers 4 083 items and the lightest 2 227.

A J Faust a noted ranchman from the east beach district was injured Thursday when a team he was watering at Wells mill on Kentucky avenue bolted. The team tangled in machinery dragging him, fracturing a collar bone and five ribs with cuts and bruises. He is recovering this week.

Symphony Orchestra Is Well Received in Dillon

Symphony events mark Armistice Day in Dillon with a large turnout. Beaverhead post organized a full program at the training school auditorium and guild hall, featuring local choirs, speeches by Rev. I. E. Loft and Rev. C. H. Parlour, a one minute silence at 11, and a banquet for business men in the evening. The Montana State Symphony Orchestra performed a varied program to strong reception, despite a substitution in the trumpet lineup.

County Commissioners Meet in Regular Session Actions Noted

The board, with commissioners Anderson and Gosman, reviewed October work and approved minutes and claims. They cancelled the six mill county interest and sinking fund levy after a Helena meeting found a statute conflict. A nurse was authorized county expense for adenoids and tonsils. Frankie O Neil ordered to the county poor farm for care. Gates near the cemetery were to be removed by order of Attorney Gilbert. (Continued on page eight.)
