The general assembly of former service men scouts and Beaverhead High School band meets at 9 30 Monday morning May 381 at the courthouse lawn. A program includes invocation by Rev Father F X Leschner address by Amos T Peterson and a sacred selection by the high school band. After the ceremony G A R Spanish War Veterans and American Legion proceed to the cemetery for flag placing a salute and taps.
Mrs. Sarah Frances Wiglesworth, longtime Dillon resident born in Feesburg Ohio, died last Friday in a Butte hospital after a short illness. Survived by son George L. Reamy of Leadore Idaho and brother Lemuel Richardson of Cincinnati Ohio. Funeral at 8387 South Atlantic Street with Rev. Edward Smith officiating and burial in Mountain View cemetery. Mizpah chapter 6 KE rites conducted the service. she was a Lima lodge member. Floral tributes noted on her long residence in the county.
Commencement week in Beaverhead County saw 48 seniors graduate at the auditorium. Prof. W D Maddock of the University of Montana delivered the commencement address titled The Confession of Tongues. Leonard Innes gave the farewell to the class and J H Gilbert awarded diplomas with A T Peterson presenting scholarship prizes.
Deputy State Game Warden Charles Price arrested Mrs. C. J. Clawson for fishing without a license while a Oregon bound couple camped south of the city. In justice court she claimed unawareness of the law and was fined 25 dollars by Judge Phillips. Also, Mrs. Hallie Berkin of Butte visited Mr. and Mrs. Hal West last week and returned home.
Democratic leaders press abolition of the two-thirds and unit rule for the 1928 convention. The 1924 deadlock under Smith and McAdoo helped elect John W. Davis, a loss that still rankles. Governor Smith backs ending the rules as foreign to modern democracy. Continued on page 11.
Over 200 boys gathered at Dillmont park for a Rotary club Boys Day outing featuring track events and games directed by Coach Hollister, with a big picnic lunch and a band concert by L. A. Gregory after the afternoon activities. Rotarians competed alongside older boys in races and field events, delivering the most attended event yet.
C. S. Doak and local telephone staff repaired line damage in Sheridan after a powerful windstorm the day before. The storm felled trees twisted porches and blew over hay stacks while windows broke and lighter items scattered. The event reached Sheridan briefly and was said to rival a tornado in intensity.
Ed Burles weighed an 8.5 pound rainbow caught on a No 6 fly after an evening in the Beaverhead river. Louis Schmittroth followed with a 6.5 pound native rainbow near Daly's Spur. Both fish drew town interest as Burles credits the Sportsmen’s Association for river health and urges public support and membership.
John S. Baker, longtime clerk and recorder, is proud as four of his grandsons graduate this spring. Clair and Jay Cosgrove finish at the University of Utah, Richard Cosgrove earns a Beaverhead County High School diploma, and Kenneth Cosgrove completes training school studies.
Henry Estelle, shot through the breast when a large calibre revolver fell from a car seat near Alder last Sunday, is recovering as well as expected under Dr. Poindexter care at a friend's home in the city. Kevin Sunburst oil field forecasts 6,000,000 barrels this year.
Merchants and business people of Dillon will close all stores banks and offices on Monday May 31 in observance of Memorial Day the holiday occurring on Sunday this year The American Legion is organizing the program which will also move to Monday instead of Sunday.
Beaverhead county markets show brisk beef steer activity with hundreds of head shipped. Armstead sent eight hundred head on Wednesday, buyers from Frye Seattle and Carstens Tacoma purchased multiple carloads, and shipments to Chicago and eastern markets continued. Prices hovered around 7.25 to 7.40 dollars, while some feeders held out for grass futures.

The Wisdom Woman's club hosted the Beaverhead County Federation of Women's clubs in Wisdom on May 22. Delegates from Shakespeare and Delphian clubs Dillon Melrose Wise River and Jackson attended. Officers were elected with Mrs A F Waldorf Shakespeare club as president and Mrs Isaac Edinger Melrose club as vice president. A luncheon followed at the Community building.
A Dillon friend reports Rev Phillip J May and wife suspend duties in Dillon two years, now serving as missionaries in Camberoun Africa. The letter recalls a fifth week in equatorial forests amid the dry season, travel by foot under tropical gear, and a French governor letter regarding native marriage disputes as the writers press on toward Mejop Mebae.
