The annual May fete at Montana State Normal College will be held Tuesday evening May 24 under the Women’s Athletic association. The event moves to the gymnasium and features the pageant What the Moon Saw directed by Miss Constance Bregan and college participants.
Dannylyall was charged with creating a disturbance at the county farm. He pleaded guilty and received a suspended thirty day sentence.
A lightning bolt struck Mrs. Gabrella Mudd's log home near Fishtrap Friday at about 3 pm. The house suffered extensive damage with shattered windows, dislodged logs, torn rafters, melted nails, and a burned foundation, but Mrs. Mudd escaped unharmed and managed a small fire with a bucket of water.
Mrs Ruth Kelley and Oscar Griffith announced they purchased the interest of Chas Horn and the Miller Floral Co in the State Greenhouse and Floral Co Inc on Thomson Avenue. They become sole proprietors and will offer home grown flowers and plants. Mrs Kelly’s first local venture and Mr Griffith’s year with the greenhouse are noted.
Reuben P. Willard longtime northern valley ranchman died Friday at his daughter Mrs. Harry Turner home in Manhattan at age 85. Survived by two sons and seven daughters including Luther Willard in this city and Ben Willard of Dell. funeral Sunday at the Methodist church with Rev. J A S Meeke officiating and burial at Mountain View. Members of his family and many out of town friends attended the rites.
Funeral services for the late Judge L P Phillips were conducted Friday afternoon at Grace Methodist Church with Rev J A Meeke officiating. The rites drew many friends from across the county and included mourners Mrs Mabel Kurtz of Glendale California and Mrs Edith Bender, daughters of the late Dillon resident.
Scores of Montana State Normal college students toiled up the slopes west of town to give the large M on the mountain its annual coat of whitewash. A noon lunch was served on the Beaverhead river banks. Louis Steinbrecher of Grant visited Tuesday.
A large body of direct shipping ore has been struck at the Ella Jay mine owned by D W Erwin E H Williams and Alfred Cox with Mr Blair of Virginia City. They leased part of the property to Garrison Wyant and William Shiter of Sheridan and have since expanded development eight miles distant. Road conditions are good aside from a few muddy spots and officials plan to build an ore bin and run two shifts. The ore body is reported to extend about 200 feet underground.
A coroner inquest into the death of William Hallahan, 57, a Butte miner found in a boxcar at Armstead yards last Saturday, ruled the death accidental after lengthy testimony and deliberation. Witnesses described the scene and an early murder suspicion faded as the verdict was returned. An autopsy followed and investigators searched for transients linked to Hallahan’s last movements.
Beaver won second place in class B at the state contest in Missoula with 79 of 100 and second in the National Scholastic Press Association contest scoring 735 of 1000. Centralite led state class B with 80 and Shack Splinter printed during the event commented Beaver earned commendation from judges. Charles Crouse represented Beaver at Missoula and Beaver was elected to vice presidency next year. Tribune Publishing prints Beaver with Fay Kirkpatrick sponsoring.
Representatives from all member clubs gathered in this city for the County Federation of Women's Organizations semi annual meeting. Mrs Herman Mussigbrod presided with Mrs Minnie Tennis visiting. program featured nurse Luella Stickney, entertainment by local students and a one act play The Wedding by the Normal college dramatics department. Resolutions of the Beaverhead county federation were to follow.
Albert Baker clerk and recorder announced only twelve days remain to register for the upcoming primary election. About 200 electors who did not vote in the 1980 general election have not re registered and must be recorded to vote. The final day for candidate filing is June 18.
Mrs. Kate Trolinger wife of S W Trolinger rancher of Sheridan died after a brief illness at about midnight Sunday She was 49 a Clinton Missouri native who lived 22 years in Montana and 14 years in this region Surviving husband three children Cecil Trolinger Belfry Mrs Joe Vazanko Sheridan and Mrs Bruce Green Sheridan mother Mrs George East three brothers and two sisters Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Baptist church with Rev R O Shannon and vocal duets by Mrs W G Gilbert and Mrs J C Jeppson Interment was in Mountain View cemetery
George R. Baker learned Friday morning his article on the Salmon River canoe trip last August by Roy Forrester and Louis Schmittroth was accepted by Field and Stream. The piece, about 8,700 words, will include photographs by the two canoeists and moving pictures already widely shown. Baker received a higher-than-usual rate and high editor praise.

W T Scully filed for county treasurer as the 32nd filing.
In the final event of the state telegraphic shoot Dillon club defeated Billings Havre and Miles City to post a perfect score of 75 and reach 1889 in standings. Eight talent broke 24 thirds. Following are the scores from the regular shoot.
