Elks honor mothers with program at Dillon lodge

Dillon Elks lodge No 1554 staged a Mother’s Day tribute at the training school auditorium. Frank W. Venable of Butte spoke on mothers, with performances by the Elks quartet, Mrs Jeppson, Dr Stephan and Dave Hier, and the Baxtersonney orchestra. Carnations were given to all in attendance.

Revered Pastor T. J. Simons Dies Suddenly at 66

The Rev. T. J. Simons, pastor of Dillon First Presbyterian, died of a heart attack in Miller South Dakota. Survivors include widow Mrs. Simons, three sons Rogers Calvert and Ranard, and daughter Mary. Interment planned for Jacksonville Illinois. Mrs. Simons left for Butte to join son Edward.

Benefit Dance for Legion Baseball Team in Dillon

Committees representing the Legion Kilks Moose and firemen plan a dance at Dillmont Park to raise funds for complete baseball uniforms. The money will outfit a picked Dillon team to compete in the Legion Junior state league intercity contests. About sixty junior players are active in Dillon this season.

Scouts 10 Hold Camp Next Week

Plans for the Boy Scout camp in the Birch Creek area from May 25 to 2% are nearing completion. The local committee includes I. I. Luebben W. B. Hartwig Roy Forrester J. C. Wedum and Guy D. Combes. Scout Executive O. I. Hoover leads the effort.

Montana Coal Dealers Convene for Annual Session

The Montana Retail Coal Dealers held their annual convention in this city last Saturday with about 50 dealers from Great Falls, Butte, Helena, Missoula, and other towns. Fred Weidman of Great Falls was elected president, G C Simpkins of Bozeman vice president, and F M Davidson of Anaconda secretary and treasurer. Roundup will host next year.

Funds Now Available for Irrigation Works

The Water Users' Irrigation Company of Beaverhead County reports federal approval for the Lima dam project. A $125,000 fund from Union Bank & Trust in Helena will cover easements water rights construction and a $50,000 payment to Bedrock Reservoir & Litigation Co. The dam will add over 100 000 acre feet of irrigation capacity and the project has an $8,000,000 valuation. Straw hats appear in Dillon signaling early summer.

Sheriff James McCollum and deputies completed a six week project recording 2026 livestock brands for Rav erhead Madison Jefferson and Silver Bow counties. The register includes an alphabetical brand index and a ranchmen list for reference and updates will be added as filed. Poppy Day observed in Dillon Saturday May 26 with American Legion auxiliary in charge of poppy sales.

Big Time at Park on Saturday Night

Dillmont reports a Shrine Bagdad Temple dance at the park Saturday night with Baxter Tonrey orchestra. The event includes a band concert and Shrine uniformed bodies drill. A city parade will precede the celebrations, aiming for large attendance in Dillon.

Legion Post Elects Officers at Beaverhead Meeting

Beav erhead post of the American Legion elected J. C. Wedum as commander for the coming year replacing Parker. Scott of Armastead and Ben Davis were chosen vice commander and finance officer respectively. George Gosmin and Walter Stamm were named historian and chaplain with Harold Warner, H. L. Hatton, and D. V. paddock among others serving on the executive committee. The group discussed uniforms for the Legion baseball team and a fundraising dance with local firemen Moose and Normal College invited to participate. Memorial day plans were advanced for an impressive ceremony under the post.

Cattle Shipment Sets New Record in Montana Region

A train load of 40 cattle cars departed Armstead bound for Austin Minnesota marking an all time shipment record for a single packing plant. The cattle bought by George A Hormel Packing of Austin are described as choice stuck and brought at a fair price higher than prior Hormel shipments. This is the third Hormel shipment with total 80 cars in a four week period, a record believed unmatched in the district.

Golden Wedding Observed by Rifes in Beaverhead County

Ike and Catherine Rife celebrated their golden wedding at Medicine Lodge with friends and kin from Lana to Butte and the Big Hole to Ruby Valley. About a thousand attendees gathered as family, gifts, and yellow decorations marked a long, happy marriage. Also named are Legion poster winners Dorothy Simpson Rosemary Girnus Helen Kennedy and others. Carroll Study Club postponement announced.
