Dillon delegates and visitors, a 14 member party with wives, traveled by special train to Miles City for the Montana Rotary conference. Governor Hazelbaker presided, delivering an illustrated address on Rotary principles and future world betterment.

Heart attack fatal to former rancher Ed Blake

Beaverhead county friends mourn the sudden death of Ed Blake at his Idaho Falls home last Saturday after a heart attack. He and his family had lived in Idaho Falls for seven years, formerly ran a large Centennial valley ranch. Survived by wife and three daughters, funeral held in Idaho Falls.

Ranch Deal Sealed for Ed Smith Ranch South of Dillon

John Rebich purchased the Ed Smith ranch several miles south of Dillon through Freeman Brown Real Estate. The historic Beaverhead valley property, among the finest hay and grain tracts, reportedly sold for about 30000 dollars and carries a water right dating to early records.

Brief illness fatal to popular student

Roy Gilmore Johnson 13, son of Mr and Mrs L G Johnson of Dillon died last Saturday in a Butte hospital after an intestinal ailment failed to respond to treatment. He was an upper grade pupil at the training school and a highly regarded youth. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Methodist church with Rev H B Ricketts officiating and burial in Mountain View cemetery. Representative Frank Rife of Armstead spent part of the week in Dillon on business.

Dillon golf club to hire old time pro for course

Dillon country club plans a spring trial of a full time golf pro to improve the course and teach members. Johnny Mallon of Butte is offered the position with duties starting about April 1, and the membership is expected to reach 100 with many taking lessons.

Miss Eva Collett Dies After Illness in Dillon

Miss Eva Collett proprietress of a Bannack street rooming house died early Thursday from uremia after a brief illness. Born in Webb City Missouri she was 33 and had lived in Dillon for several years. Survived by her sister Mrs Meredith of Denver and her mother also of Denver. Funeral plans pending.

Senator F A Hazelbaker was seriously ill with a throat ailment on Wednesday and was reported indistinct on Thursday, prompting further medical attention and concern from supporters.

Mrs Luebben Injured in Auto Accident

Mrs T E Luebben was hurled into a tree when her car, parked on South Pacific street, was struck by Ed Kennison’s vehicle as Ernest Luebben changed a tire. Mrs Luebben’s injuries confined her to home for days. Mr Luebben was only mildly hurt when a wheel ran over his ankle. Kennison took blame for the crash.

Elkhorn mine revival eyed by Boston Montana deal

Former Lt. Gov. W. R. Allen in Dillon says Boston and Montana Development will resume operations at Elkhorn. Labor and legal claims totaling about 173000 will be paid within a month, workers paid in full, mine and rail operations to restart once receivership is released. Nearly all stockholders have contributed, with preliminary bridge repairs planned and court actions pending.

The Beaverhead county high school plans its annual Hi Jinx carnival with two March evenings at the school gym. Miss Beaverhead will be crowned from among candidate girls, refreshments served, and dancing planned each night. The event promises new features and increased entertainment.

A light snow and frequent flurries boost prospects for bumper crops in Beaverhead County this fall. Sheepmen fear losses but lambing in sheds limits damage. Mountain snow packs are abundant though melting raises swollen creeks and rivers, which nearly reached flood stage last Friday, a record in years.
