Ranchers and Beaverhead county farmers gathered at Dillon High School for the annual Ag club program. Principal speaker M. J. Abbey urged vocational work and parental duties, while students showcased shop and extension work. A dance and refreshments capped the evening and Fredrick Crouse received a $100 scholarship from Union Pacific.

Big Hole Basin to Ship 4000 Head Cattle
E L Hopper the Northern Pacific livestock agent reports the Big Hole Basin will ship about 4000 cattle to national packing plants this year. Shipments will be fewer than last year but higher prices offset the decline. Cattle traders have been active with ten car shipments from Belgrade and Three Forks to the Wallace ranch near Jens. The April 1 start date for shipments is noted along with a ten car lot sent to Portland and Tacoma.

Cook Sheep Co Wool Brings 42 Cents Per Pound
R W Boone representing Hallowell Jones and Donald of Boston completed the Cook Sheep company wool purchase at 42 cents a pound, the season high in the county. He also secured 5,000 head of lambs sold to Thomas Brothers of Ashton Idaho for 11 cents. Senator E B Selway sold his lambs at the same price this week.

Memories Revived at Auction Sale on Ditty Ranch
A crowd gathered last Tuesday at the George Ditty ranch for an auction. Col Alf Decker and Civil War veteran William Reed recalled early days as Decker noted he built a barn 46 years ago for old man Van Camp, while Reed spoke of sheds built for milk cows. New owner William Tash values the red barn as highly as his own ranch near Grasshopper.

Mrs May Contracts Sleeping Sickness
A letter from Miss Anna Patterson reports Rev Philip May and his wife Mrs May, long serving missionaries in Cameroun, South Africa, have contracted sleeping sickness. The illness is in early stage and recovery is expected. They plan a furlough to the United States around May and may return this summer for postgraduate study at Princeton.

Steers Sold From Armstead to Wisconsin Feedlot
W S Tash delivered 20 two year old steers at Armstead last week averaging 1841 pounds each. The cattle were sold to James Dodd and shipped to Wisconsin to be fed for a brief period.

Golf Fans Find New Interest in Dillon Course
Winter snow kept the Dillon Country club course closed but warm weather drew players daily. Improvements aim to modernize the course into a top state venue with membership to 100 and potential state tournament involvement. The April 9 annual meeting will shape plans for 1928 and boost women members. A work crew will clear sage brush next Sunday. Slaughter House Destroyed By Blaze Near City
A slaughter house owned by Chester Hale and Chris Bay of the Cash market burned to the ground north of town last Monday evening. The loss exceeded four thousand dollars with about two thousand dollars in meats and hides destroyed. the building was seven years old and partially insured. Firemen arrived quickly after neighbors reported the blaze, but a portion of equipment and stock could not be saved.
