The Forest Service Showboat under E D Landing moves toward the Beaverhead National Forest and should dock at Dillon on April 2. Organizers delay film listings while selecting top new features and preparing for field work, with a revised schedule to appear soon.
Enrollment shows a slight dip from last term though overall registration remains similar to the winter quarter. Several new courses launch for spring, classes resume after a winter-spring interval, and Dr. Donald Light delivers Wednesday assembly remarks after studying in Germany.
Sheriff James McCollum and Deputy Pat Flynn arrested Adam Polick in Deer Lodge on a charge of stealing two sets of harness from the Thompson ranch near Dell. The theft was publicized in newspapers and the harness was identified by a foreman at the ranch. It had allegedly been sold to a Deer Lodge rancher by Polick.
A high school fine arts program will be presented Friday March 29 at 8 15 in the school gym. The orchestra directed by L A Gregory the gree clubs led by Miss Mildred Buckinburg and the dramatics classes under Miss Violet Eastman will perform a varied program. Proceeds go to needed school equipment.
George Snider, about 44, died at Barrett hospital last Thursday from injuries after a horse he rode fell on him. He lived in the Big Hole basin about 20 years and worked at the John Peterson ranch where the accident occurred. Funeral services were held Friday at 2:30 pm from Brundage chapel with Rev. J A Meeke officiating. He was a World War veteran accorded American Legion honors by Beaverhead post.
Officials of the Mining Association of Mortana and independent operators expect a strong 1935 summer. F C Gilbert says investor interest in gold and silver ventures grows as private capital returns to mining. Montana's revised REC mining loan policy and up to 20000 loans boost prospects. Late winter snows eased fears of water shortages for placer operations.
Mrs. Fred Woodside and Mrs. Frank A Hazelbaker led Beaverhead D A R figures as Mrs F H Bim and Mrs T E Luebben departed Wednesday to attend the 32nd annual Montana D A R state conference in Missoula from March 27 through 29 amid 28.
In a city election set for Monday April 1 B W Emerick challenges incumbent mayor D A Galt after a petition placed Emerick on the ballot. Galt won the Citizens ticket 51 to 43. the caucus named Gruwell for police judge McFadden for treasurer and others were nominated by acclamation. Alderman candidates include George Opp for fourth ward and incumbents Brundage Waldorf Phillips with further ticket details pending.
Sheriff James McCollum reports Beaverhead County jail is now designated as a federal prison for housing individuals convicted under U S government statutes with federal funds covering the costs.
At a regular meeting of the Diana's Rebekah lodge a large audience enjoyed the P N G club performance of How the Story Grew by C. W. Gleason. The cast included Mrs. Brown Ruth Ann Dart Mrs. Green Selah Frakes Mrs. Bean Nellie Nelson Mrs. Doolittle Catherine Murphy Mrs. Snow Anna Cashmore Mrs. Ricé Ivy Taylor Mrs. White Hazel Conger Esther Schmittroth. Refreshments followed the entertainment.
The Montana State Normal college women defeated the State college at Bozeman team in a Tuesday evening debate held in the college auditorium. The topic centered on international shipment of armaments.
Washington the senate agriculture committee heard wool growers argue for advertising over government price supports. W G Gilbert of Dillon Minnesota and W B Willard of Harding county South Dakota opposed processing taxes to fund farm relief, saying marketing and voluntary associations can better sustain markets than Uncle Sam diversions. Senator Frazier submitted Western North Dakota Liverstock association resolutions against feed control.
Montana reports 4-H club enrollment of 4948 youths last year, including 1641 boys and 3807 girls, with an 89.3 percent completion rate. The state list details county by county figures for Beaverhead to Toole and Indian reservations.
Mrs Elizabeth Clemon hosted a bridge luncheon on Wednesday of last week with eight friends present. The gathering featured a delicious repast and warm conversation with Mrs Diggle Emerick among the guests.

J A Jones prominent rancher of the Centennial valley died last Saturday at his daughter Mrs William Miller’s home near Monida. Born in 1848 inInclain Virginia he lived in the valley 41 years. Survived by five daughters three sons and many grandchildren. Funeral held Wednesday afternoon from the family home with Rev H N Tragitt of St James church officiating. Interment in Jenes cemetery.
About 150 friends gathered at the Ovalecain mill in the Big Hole west of Jackson to honor Mr and Mrs Ben Oneal on their 50th wedding anniversary. A snowbound procession, turkey dinner, and an afternoon program featured songs readings a fashion parade and old time dancing. The couple married March 19 1885 in Moulton Town and moved to Montana in 1899 later settling in the Big Hole.
The Dill BON Rotary club heard Dr W J Romersa chair Monday night with guests including Charles Price Rev H N Tragitt A U Smith Dr L F Williams C M Ogan E C Luebben E L Fairbanks and Frank Venable James Hendrick state game farm superintendent Anaconda spoke on sportsman problems noting game birds avoid gopher and grasshopper poisons and urging respect for no trespassing signs and gate closing He proposed plans to increase Beaverhead county game birds Dr Donald Light spoke on experiences in Germany comparing American and European views noting Germans admiration for Hitler while noting foreign press limits and the German desire for peace and orderly conditions
Tom Underwood, Bannack pioneer, unearthed a buckskin bag of gold dust valued around 4000 dollars while tearing down an old fireplace. The cache, hidden long ago in the chimney, may have been placed by a pioneer miner possibly tied to Plummer's gang. The owner remains unknown.
Francis Tonney buys the W. T. Scully home and surrounding property west of the city and plans to move there soon.
Dr A C Morrow spoke at the Bond Farmers Union meeting at Nelson school on Wednesday night. He cited government test statistics on cows and noted Dillon dairymen are having their herds tested for Bangs disease and tuberculosis at owners’ request. Dairies tested include Hocking Koenig Gilman and Carrigan with others expected to apply this spring.
