Triple murder suicide shocks Armstead Beaverhead county

Jim Nolan killed Clay Roselle and Ray Elkins at a Roselle bar shop near Armstead before shooting himself in a cabin blaze. Evidence shows a .303 Savage rifle caused the deaths. a nearby porch window and door suggest gunfire. Nolan, about 50 with a cork leg, had worked as a bartender for Roselle and faced possible arrest when he died.

Washington bi centennial declamation winners named

Winners announced for the Washington bi centennial declamation contest held Saturday afternoon at Dillon and Lima. In northern Dillon area divisions, top placers included Norma Paddock Wise River and Craig Anderson Drummey, with other high finishers from Armstead Bannack and Wise River. A Twin Bridges state orphans team defeated Dillon training school 10-3 in the finals of the Saturday hoop tournament conducted by the Parent Teachers association.

United Passion Week Service Planned for Good Friday

At a Dillon Ministerial Association meeting, a united Passion Week service was set for Good Friday at 8 o'clock in the Methodist Episcopal church. Rev. T. J. Simons to give the devotional message and Rev. R. O. Shannon to read the scripture and prayers.

Beaverton High Trophy Winner Gladys Carr Interview

Gladys Carr winner of the silver basketball trophy awarded by Coach W J Bierrum gave an interview to a nosey reporter in advisory last Friday. A Lima native she starved in high school activities, captaining the Lima team and playing guard jumping center and forward on the Beaverette squad. Prefers basketball, pursued commerce studies, and plans to continue schooling next year with undecided destination. Previous winners include Ivie Wentworth in 1930 and Ebba Anderson last year.

Mrs. Fred Woodside Montana DAR state treasurer outlines the Beaverhead chapter state convention to be held in Dillon. The program includes a reception, opening session at 9 am with bugle call, invocations, speeches by state and local leaders, luncheon, and a banquet with performances. Over 50 delegates expected.

Canvass of City Committee Aims to Aid Unemployed

Dillon Residents Report Tremor Slips Through Town

A Monday morning quake rattled windows and dishes in Dillon causing startled residents to wake from slumber. The tremor, felt mainly in second floors and large buildings, moved westward and was weaker than Montana’s 1930 quake with no damage reported.
