Sugar beet meeting to boost Beaverhead valley prosperity

A large turnout is expected in Dillon for a sugar beet industry meeting. Prominent speakers including Gov. Edwin Norris and T. J. Walsh will discuss beet cultivation, factory needs, and regional benefits. The session, led by Senator B. F. White, A. L. Stone, and Theodore Nelson, will be held tomorrow at 2 30 in the court room of the county courthouse.

Poultry Ranch Sets High Egg Output Target

Chris Snyder of Dillon Poultry Ranch plans to match output to current equipment and believes production will exceed 3,000 chickens this year. He added five incubators, bringing total to nine with capacity of 2,300 eggs across two 160 egg units, three 250 egg units, two 240 egg units, and two 260 egg units.

Wellman to lecture on Arctic exploration at Dillon talk

Walter Wellman, Chicago Record-Herald correspondent and Arctic explorer, will lecture at the Normal College assembly hall on Friday evening March 27. The talk, illustrated by stereopticon views, will cover the frozen north and is expected to be highly engaging locally.

County Jail Holdup Case Dismissed for Young Defendants

On motion by County Attorney Melton the case against several youths in the county jail linked to the Cahill holdup last week was dismissed. The defendants were discharged from custody.

Steam Laundry Change of Ownership and Lease

J F Wikidal sells the Dillon Steam Laundry lease to Charles Birden and Otto Leach for a year with a possible extension. Birden will manage outside operations and Leach will oversee inside work. Wikidal leaves for health reasons and patrons will receive continued service.

Moving the buildings for Beaverhead County fair in Dillon

Frank P. Birrer began moving buildings from the old fair grounds to the new in Dillon. A half mile race track grading contract was awarded to George Ditty and work will start after frost. The fair grounds feature a 1000 seat grandstand, floral hall, stalls, and fences to separate stock from trains. Ranchers plan to exhibit livestock and farm products, signaling a bright first fair. H. F. Edwards, long time ore expert, outlines the Golden Leaf group at Bannack. He details contact ledges between lime and syenite, ore widths from 20 to 60 feet, and a one mile diameter ore body. Butte Argenta Mining advances at Iron Mountain mine

Tony French reports Dillon visitors as the Butte Argenta Mining company conducts steady work at the Iron Mountain mine. A Pelton wheel power plant is installed with 154 horsepower output and a dynamo is planned for spring. The incline shaft nears 130 feet lower, aiming for the 450 foot level, with ore assays up to 8 percent copper. Fourteen men currently work the site. A J Bender shipped five cars of sheep to Spokane from local yards.

Passion Play film to grace Scenic Theatre in Dillon

Bert Leo arranges three night run of The Passion Play at Scenic Theatre Dillon on March 26 27 and 28 with moving pictures telling the life of Christ. Two shows nightly at 7 15 and 8 45 tickets go on sale March 24 at noon. Mrs C W Scott will sing The Holy City and Grace Graeter will be pianist.

Outlook Brightens for Railroad Through Salmon Country

The Trail company pushes a railroad from Armstead across the divide into Idaho's Salmon river region. Landowners are negotiating cash settlements for rights of way through Horse Prairie and adjacent ranches. Multiple routes have been surveyed, with $100,000 spent on surveying and thousands paid to landowners. W A McCutcheon of Pittsburg remains involved, hinting at later visits to Dillon.

Forestry official to hold ranger examination in April

C. K. Wyman supervisor of the Big Hole national forest announces an exam for rangers at his office on April 23 and 24. He notes a nationwide shortage of qualified men and plans to employ three guards in the Big Hole reserve this spring.

John W. Miller a St. Anthony Idaho businessman toured Dillon on business this week and voiced strong belief that sugar beet farming could greatly benefit Dillon. He cited beet culture success in his hometown and urged local farmers to pursue the crop.

In Honor of Gov and Mrs Norris Mr and Mrs A L Anderson entertained many friends at a dinner last Friday with Gov and Mrs Edwin Norris as the guests of honor. White carnations and ferns decorated the rooms and five courses were served.
