State Liquor Board appoints officials and salaries

The state liquor control board announced its selections including L M Wass from Roy, James J Brett from Butte, Thomas W Marshall from Helena, and D A Batchoff from Butte with monthly salaries of 416, 350 and 216 dollars. The board lists Henry Good of Kalispell as chairman Edward Donlan of Missoula and W B Vaughn of Billings as members.

Girl Scouts celebrated their twenty fifth birthday Friday with two main objectives for the year. They honored Juliette Low founder of the movement and expanded the program to offer more adequate material and guidance to troops.

Pearl J Smith Family Hurt In Collision

Almost two score veterans attended the Legion meeting at Canyon Resort where John Wenger received the Order of the Purple Heart for action in Flanders October 1918 with the 91st Division. George Gosman presented the award and recalled the occasion. Paul Cash will receive his Croix de Guerre later. The gathering followed a veterans banquet and discussed a Junior Baseball program with plans for four inter ward teams and an official Legion team for inter city events.

Diplomas Awarded to Class of Nine at Winter Commencement

George S Davie president of the State Orphans Home at Twin Bridges delivered the winter quarter graduation address to nine graduates in the college auditorium. One bachelor of education and eight two year diplomas were awarded during ceremonies featuring a student procession, music by Ralph McFadden, and a recessional.

Dell School Bus Wreck Injures Child Minor

A Dell school bus driven by Mrs. Bert McNich overturned after slipping from the road shoulder. Her daughter aboard suffered a slight facial bruise. no other injuries reported. The bus was normally driven by Mrs. Ted Renfro who is at home with a broken leg.

Former state senator critically injured in Madison county crash

Pearl I Smith an ex Dillon resident and former Beaverhead County state senator lies critically injured at Barrett hospital after a Monday collision near Melrose with Tony Panion of Butte allegedly drunk. His wife and son Ralph also injured. Rachel Smith, ex senator's daughter, flew to Butte after hearing the news.

Patrick Sweeney Dies at Barrett Hospital

Patrick Michael Sweeney, rancher at Dell, died Wednesday at Barrett hospital. Born March 17, 1865 in Buffalo, New York, he came to Montana in 1887 and lived in Beaverhead county for 44 years. Survived by wife Sarah, brother Walter, and several siblings in New York. Funeral set for Friday March 19 at 10:30 a.m. from the Catholic church with Rev. Clifford officiating. Rosary at Brundage chapel Thursday at 8 p.m.

Dillon Observes St Patrick’s Day with Planned Benefit Dance

Dillon marks St Patrick’s Day with green attire and events. The American Legion Auxiliary benefit dance at City Hall raises funds for Barrett hospital’s oxygen tent installed last November. A St Patrick’s Day auction at Lovell Livestock ranch sold considerable livestock and farm machinery nine miles south of Dillon.

Dry forces move to block Montana liquor law

Anti saloon groups led by the Montana anti saloon league circulate petitions to refer the new retail liquor law to a vote. They must collect at least 20 000 signatures in 29 small counties to trigger a statewide referendum. A Helena meeting gathered groups backing the blocking effort while mayors plan a model licensing ordinance.

Butte Teams Dominate State Independent Tourney

Butte squads swept the top three places at the state independent tournament in Butte. The M and M team defeated Freebourn 49 to 41 for the title, with Gosman’s trio taking fourth after a 34 to 26 win over Gosman. Card of Montana Mines led the winners with 11 points.

Otto A. Schultz of Sheridan tied for top honors in the international flyer championship at Kansas City last week. The Sheridan gun devotee had been a frequent near winner but never before captured the top prize in the live bird event.

County soil conservation committee elected in Dillon area

Community committeemen for the 1937 soil conservation program were chosen in Dillon Reichle and Dell with most repeats from last year. Beaverhead valley now forms one district. A Wisdom meeting will pick range program members and the county committee will meet Friday at 1 30 to adjust 1937 worksheets for state approval. Range applications have no final filing date yet blanks available at the county extension agent's office.

Little Sharon Hull Dies at Lakeview

News of the untimely death of Sharon Hull four year old daughter of Mr and Mrs A V Hull of Lakeview. She fell ill Friday and underwent an appendix operation in Idaho Falls Saturday but the surgery came too late. Funeral services will be held in Brigham City Utah with interment in Logan. A Dillon potato shipment report notes a carload loaded with potatoes purchased from Pat Ladin Harry Nielson Berg Christiansen Jess Ditty and Bill Deputy led by Jurgenson the independent buyer.

Luther Seybold, longtime county resident, dies

Luther Bush Seybold 78, longtime county resident, died Wednesday at his Dillon home after a long illness. Born October 5, 1859 in Brandonville, Til, he moved to the area about 40 years ago, ranched near Lima, and later lived in Dillon. He is survived by nieces and nephews in Dillon and Lima.
