Monida and nearby towns report visits from residents and relatives from Dillon, Anaconda, Butte, and Drake Idaho. Highlights include Red Cross fundraising, hospital and forest business, school graduation results, a Sheridan Ennis baseball result, and community events at the library and hall.
McHessor June 26 report shows Baril Bros drilling at W. H. Road ranch while Sami Triplett buys a Mogul engine to plow hundreds of acres. Illinois men bring a Big Four engine to plow half section in section 29, with Sol Baker and others using Waterloo Boy, 10-20 Case, and 9-18 Case engines. Sy Brown and Ulrick Casper finish fencing for Jeff Cox and Mrs. Davis, then build a cistern for Mrs. Davis who will work at the Carter ranch near Dillon. Rain is badly needed.
Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Edwards and family and Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Marsh and Glenn attended the funeral of Norris Westone, a three year old drowned in Ramshorn creek near his parents home in Ruby. Rev Anstice led the service at Mrs. Adam Mitchell's home. The death follows the family's return from Iowa.
Mr and Mrs Hooper visited from Butte to see Mr and Mrs Waters. J C Ferguson made a Dillon business trip. Mrs E Garrison and her son Billy traveled to Butte. Edna from Helena joined them in Butte and they returned home together. Families from Lima Ohio Yellow stone and Apex are mentioned with travel and horse trade notes. Local concerns include rain shortage and grazing needs.
Loomont June 28 Roadmaster Stacy and crew are in town to smooth and repair roads. Social visits include Mr. and Mrs. Frank Haughton of Whitehall at the Powell home, and dinners with the Fosters. Other local movements mention Mrs. E. T. Noble, Judith Noble, and trips to Twin Bridges Whitehall and Butte.
The Stone Creek school house dance last Saturday night was a success. Mr and Mrs O'Brien of Butte visit with Mr and Mrs B F Johnson. Jess Brown is ill at his in laws home. George Murray and P O Cash visited Dillon. Crops on the beach look good. J H Bray traveled to Dillon. Shearing ends at Mose Smyth sheds. The O D O club donated 2.60 to Madison and Beaverhead Red Cross societies.
Washington, June 27. Senator Boies Penrose introduces a bill to give rural carriers from ten to twenty five dollars per month to maintain equipment based on route length. Proposals aim to ease repair costs for rough roads and gain Senate support through Penrose's post office committee influence.
L. R. Foote assistant state superintendent of public instruction is appointed director of the United States Boys Working Reserve for Montana. His appointment was confirmed by the department of labor in Washington. He seeks volunteer organizers in every Montana county and may attend a Washington conference June 29–30 depending on department guidance.
The Helena Independent reports a federal effort to mobilize boys aged 16 to 21 for farming and industrial work during a labor shortage. Enrollment requires parental consent, employer consent if employed, good health verified by physician, and an oath of allegiance. the program operates with state and federal organizers and aims to coordinate similar efforts nationwide.
L. R. Foote, deputy state superintendent of public instruction, called on Dillon friends Tuesday and arranged to move his household goods from the ranch near Glen station to Helena.
