Adobe Walls Battle Remembered On Frontier Anniversary
Sixty years ago this month the Adobe Walls fight began June 27 1874 when a large Comanche Kiowa Cheyenne and allied war party attacked a buffalo hunters camp on the south fork of the Canadian river in present day Hutchinson county Texas Panhandle. The siege left three dead including William Olds and his wife survived by a small group of defenders. Monuments now mark the site where Myers Leonard Hanrahan and Bat Masterson among others held out against a numerically superior force until relief came.
