Dillon Public Schools Close for Summer After Year of Strong Attendance

The Dillon public schools ended the year with many pupils listed as perfect in attendance across Miss Lees Dorchester Russell and Rust rooms. Teachers plan summer travels from Iowa to New York to California while promising to return next year as the system reports excellent conditions and staffing.

Dunning Callaway Nuptials At Montana State College

Bozeman June 8 The marriage of Miss Harriett Dunning and Edmund J Callaway took place in Hamilton hall at Montana State College. A brief ceremony followed a musical program and luncheon with guests including Mrs M L Callaway of Virginia City and President James M Hamilton.

New John T. Orr Garage Reaches Modern Auto Facility

The John T. Orr Auto company expands with a new brick rear wall and renovated floors. An elevator shaft and broad clear space replace the old stables, and the second floor becomes an auto service area. The firm recently secured the Apperson Jack Rabbit agency and has sold about fifteen cars since obtaining their first vehicle.

Pioneer Henry Febes Dies After Civil War Service

James Henry Febes, aged 66, longtime Bannack country resident, dies of acute kidney trouble at his Atlantic Street home in Dillon after a 15 year struggle. Born December 4 1838 in Ohio, he served in the Eleventh Illinois Infantry, witnessed vigilante justice near Virginia City, prospected in Bannack, then homesteaded on Blacktail and bought Dillon lots. Survived by eleven relatives. funeral held at Presbyterian church with Rev. E V Ostrander officiating and interment in Mountain View cemetery.

Unfortunate Accident Dreads River Log Work

Drayman Charlie Scott slipped while snaking logs near the river bridge west of town. He fell into swift water, was swept downstream by eddies, and narrowly escaped drowning by using his swimming skill to reach a bank and climb out ahead of the Letice place.

Colored man badly beaten in town incident

A black man arrested for pocket picking is released when the victim does not testify. That night the man fueled a fight with a white man outside Centennial saloon. A bar strike near Mayfield blacksmith shop left the colored man with a neck wound. he recovered, doctor noting no fracture. The tale continues on page four.

Beaverhead County Commissioners June Session

Beaverhead County Montana board met June 1912 in Dillon with Patterson Francis and Baker present. They approved bonds and audits, appointed Finley Cunard janitor at 70 dollars monthly, rejected a license claim, and named delegates to the Montana Good Roads Congress. Bridge at Daly’s Spur ordered repaired with danger notices. bids for a steel bridge to be sought at a June 22 special session. Road petitions for Carter Creek and Bimrose areas reviewed with right of way agreements pending and county road designation planned upon completion.
